Tybald - Endangered species series - Kids Zip Hoodie
Tybald is a Woodland Caribou, and can be found traipsing in mountainous mature forests in Central and Northern B.C. and the Chilcotin.
Normally, Tybald and the other Woodland Caribou spend their time munching lichen and travelling together with their herd. Tybald’s life, once simple and carefree, was ruined by habitat destruction. The Caribou rely on large, old forests for their entire way of life. The lichen do not grow on trees until they are decades old, and young forests are too dense for the herd to travel quickly. The leftover logging roads act as a super highway for predators. As well, the warming effects of climate change have made life difficult for Tybald - reduced snowpacks, higher snow lines, and shorter winters mean they can no longer travel quickly.
Our MLAs are fighting for legislation protecting these endangered species.
