Devon - Endangered species series - recycled/organic Eco-Fleeceâ„¢ blend Zip Hoodie
Devon the Painted Turtle. Devon can be found basking on boulders or floating logs in Southern Interior valleys, such as the Creston and Nelson areas, Okanagan Valley, and others. They can live 20-30 years and grow to be the size of a dinner plate!
They require a varied habitat, including wetlands with muddy-bottomed ponds and marshes next to upland areas with dry, light-textured soils for nesting.
Unfortunately, Painted Turtles are threatened due to human alteration and destruction of their already limited habitat range—such as the draining or modification of wetlands. As well, up to 90 percent of all turtle nests are lost to predators or destroyed by humans.
Our MLAs are fighting for legislation to protect species like Devon.
